The Valuation of Securities Task Force held a special session on infrastructure investments at the NAIC’s Summer 2016 National Meeting. The conversation focused on defining infrastructure investment and how regulators can work to address regulatory impediments.
NAIC President and Missouri Insurance Director John M. Huff opened the session by emphasizing that the priority of state insurance departments must be the solvency of the insurance companies they regulate.
“I look at this session as exploratory in nature,” Huff said. “Critical to these considerations is not to encourage or improperly incentivize insurers to do anything that does not make sense from an investment perspective or is not financially prudent."
