A United Kingdom delegation of financial service representatives met with NAIC members during the NAIC's Spring 2017 National Meeting, just a week after the U.K. began proceedings to exit the European Union. The purpose of the meeting was to lay the foundation for future dialogue on issues of mutual concern. During the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of the U.S.-U.K. relationship and shared history of cooperation and support for stable, competitive and well-regulated insurance markets.
U.K. attendees included Katharine Braddick, Director General for Financial Services, H.M. Treasury; David Rule, Executive Director, Insurance Supervision, Bank of England/PRA; Gareth Truran, Head of Division Insurance, Bank of England/PRA; and Benedict Wagner-Rundell, First Secretary (Economic) British Embassy, Washington, D.C.
The NAIC was represented by NAIC President and Wisconsin Insurance Commissioner Ted Nickel, NAIC President-Elect and Tennessee Insurance Commissioner Julie Mix McPeak, Connecticut Insurance Commissioner Katharine L. Wade, Hawaii Insurance Commissioner Gordon Ito and Michael F. Consedine, NAIC Chief Executive Officer. Wade and Ito serve as chair and vice chair (respectively) of the NAIC's International (G) Committee.
