Welcome to Miami, Florida for the 2016 National Association of Insurance Commissioners
(NAIC) Fall National Meeting.
I am so pleased you could all join us here in the beautiful Sunshine State. I hope that those of you escaping from the wintery areas of our country will find joy in our abundance of tropical weather and warm temperatures. It's that weather, along with beautiful national and state parks, wonderful beaches, and the most magical place on Earth, that make Florida one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. With a thriving economy, low tax environment and increasing job growth, our state delivers as an attractive place to live and work for the more than 20 million people who call it home. The insurance industry itself plays a vital role in our overall economy by employing more than 212,000 Floridians.
As Insurance Commissioner for the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (Office), I am honored to oversee a staff of more than 260 individuals who all work to accomplish our mission of promoting a stable and competitive insurance market for consumers and the more than 4,300 insurance-related entities that we regulate.
I am excited to continue the excellent progress on many of our most important work streams over the next several days. By actively participating in regulatory policy formation and standardsetting practices through the NAIC, we are able to exchange ideas and address emerging conditions in the marketplace and strengthen the foundation of our state-based regulatory system.
While we have a lot to accomplish, I hope you get an opportunity to explore the city of Miami and take advantage of its world-famous beaches, shopping, dining, and other attractions. Thank you for visiting Florida and enjoy the meeting.
