    Huff Recaps Spring National Meeting

    NAIC President and Missouri Insurance Director John M. Huff highlights important topics during the NAIC Spring National Meeting in New Orleans.

    CIPR Spring Event Tackles Insurance Tech
    The NAIC's Center for Insurance Policy and Research (CIPR) held its Spring Event, Insurance and Technology, on Tuesday during the NAIC's Spring National Meeting. Nearly 300 people attended the event, which was hosted by NAIC President and Missouri Insurance Director John M. Huff.

    "Today's CIPR Event covers how advances in technology are changing the traditional business of insurance and how it is marketed, delivered and priced," said Huff during the CIPR Spring Event. "However, insurance regulators must ensure these innovations are being employed in a fair and equitable way. This may require the collection of additional data and the development of new tools to assist regulators."

    NAIC Hot Spot
    Year-End 2015 U.S. Insurer Exposure to Private Equity Funds Decreases; Hedge Funds Increases

    On March 4, 2016, the NAIC Capital Markets Bureau published a special report on the U.S. insurance industry's exposure to private equity funds and hedge funds, which included data as of year-end 2014. The 2015 annual financial statements have now been submitted; while there are likely to be some continuing updates, significant changes are unlikely. The Hot Spot provides information on exposures for year-end 2015 and highlights changes since the prior year.

    The NAIC and Japan Hold Fifth Dialogue
    The NAIC's fifth insurance regulatory dialogue with the Financial Services Agency of Japan (JFSA) was held on March 15-16 in Tokyo, Japan. Julie Mix McPeak, NAIC Vice President and Tennessee Insurance Commissioner, and New Jersey Insurance Division Director Peter L. Hartt led the team. The bilateral dialogue with the world's second largest insurance market allowed both sides to share various regulatory updates and continue discussions on key international standard setting issues under consideration by the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS), Financial Stability Board (FSB), and Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
